For the Marketing Night Owls

Lynn Terry is certainly enjoying her discovery of WordPress - especially the scheduled posting. See, I use Blogger and I gotta go in and publish all my posts manually. With WordPress, you're able to write and schedule your blog entries for later publishing.

Well, Lynn has come up with a creative idea (that you might scoop up for your own target markets) and that's her new blog at Midnight Marketing Snack. Each night, at midnight, a new quick marketing tip is posted to her blog - perfect for all those marketing night owls who can surf by her blog and get a tip each night.

Darn - when I clicked the link it pulled up an error page "Error establishing a database connection" :(

You know, I see that problem with WordPress blogs frequently. Do you know why? I thought the site was hosted on your server - why would you get an error from WordPress?

It's most likely because they're on shared servers, with many other sites. For example if you're paying $10/month for hosting, there are a ton of other people's sites on the same server with yours.

If the host puts too many sites on a server, or if some of the sites start having a ton of SQL usage (like big forums), then there could be problems due to too many queries to the database (or other related issues). WordPress runs using MySQL, so if you can't connect to it, you can't see the blog.

I don't know. This is a new one for me. Never seen an error for a word press blog.

It's up now - go get your snack. It's only 11:04 PM on the West Coast. :-)

Thanks for the mention, Alice - this has been a fun project so far :)

Unfortunately the site was down for about an hour last night, which caused the error you saw Nell. Once my account came back up it took the database a little bit longer.

And Eric is right - this site is hosted on a shared server at the moment. I am testing out a few new hosting companies (as you read on my other blog, Alice) and so far nothing compares to ThirdSphere...

Best,
Lynn Terry
