TV on the Internet?

As someone who works online, if I'm going to veg out with a video, TV show or even a video game, it has to be far, far away from my computer. When I need a break, I have to remove myself complete from the dark lure of the net. .Hee hee.

But seriously, I've never been able to get into video online as I'm too impatient for it. I don't get the fascination with YouTube. I don't understand why people want to watch T.V. programs on demand on the T.V. station websites. I also don't understand how thousands of Internet marketers sat through John Reese's series of online videos about focus. If you know me, you'll know John has been a great teacher and influence on me, but I haven't watched those videos he made. I have NO patience for it.

Clearly, I'm an oddity. There's even a service at tVadio that brings a bunch of Internet T.V. stations to your computer. The player, in beta, is free and might be of interest to T.V. program enthusiasts who like to watch on their computer.

As an Internet marketer, can you get into video online?

Hi Alice, I don't know if I can call myself an Internet marketer per se, but I hope to chip in my 2 pence anyway.

Online videos are certainly poised to reach tipping point in 2007 whether we like it or not. And you can attribute that to YouTube's phenomenal success. More and more people are taking to online videos like moths to a flame because YouTube gives them the ability to direct, produce, create, host and share their videos with the world - with social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook acting as catalyst to the ‘viral effect’. Plus the fact that many of these videos are short, people are willing to give up that 5 or 10 minutes of their lives to entertain themselves online.

Once the infrastructure for broadband and wi-fi takes shape across the globe, online videos will be commonplace. Analysts have already predicted online video ads to soar and you know this is truly becoming a lucrative market when cable networks are already plotting to kill off YouTube with their own version of a video sharing site.

I guess another reason for its popularity is because for many of them, a computer is not a means of livelihood. And that’s why for many hardworking online marketers like yourself, mixing pleasure at your place of work is taboo.

WOW, thanks for the tip, Alice!
You ROCK girl! I just checked it out and when it becomes available (downloadable)I'll probably get it!
Personally, I like the idea of having it available in a small window. After all, what would life be if we could not multitask. And really for me, I like to add a little pleasure with my business. Why not, if you can?! Life is short! Enjoy! They will probably start out with limited content, but I notice that they already have an English psychic, and mature content channel lined up.

Ok.. this is going to sound really strange coming from me but I honestly can't stand watching long videos online. Keyword is long.

I can get into YouTube when I'm ready for down time, I can get into mushy videos and those that touch my heart but anything past 5 minutes in length and does not teach me to do something, I'm outta there.

Still, I think video has great potential - it's just what is in it and - just my 2 cents - length of video matters a whole lot. Most on YouTube and all that are really short clips.

I have to agree with you. I don't like watching videos online, but I'm looking at how to start using them in my own business just because they're so popular.

I guess the thing to remember is that some people learn better by both hearing and seeing someone, rather than by reading or just listening to audio.

Stirring the pot - good for you! Nothing like posting an "against-the-grain" comment to get people talking.

Hi Alice - it's Doug Lietz. Haven't communicated with you in quite a while. I've been keeping busy with the KidArt business, and am now also helping a small television broadcast company make the transition over to the exciting world of web video. So... how could I NOT pipe up at this stage :)

Your story about not having the patience for online video reminds me of the comments that we hear from many people who say they don't have the patience to read long sales letter copy.

My personal opinion is that it doesn't really matter whether it's text or video or long copy or short copy. What matters is if the content is highly relevant to the viewer/reader. What if John Reese made a video just for your, all about your two wonderful children? Bet you'd watch it from beginning to end... on your computer... on your TV... on your video IPOD :) :)

Keep up the great work that you do Alice.

Doug.
