Tough Question Tuesday: How Many Takes Does it Take?

When you take your photo for your website, how many times do you have to take it before you are satisfied?

When I was in Atlanta, some people said I look very different from my picture in my logo above and asked if I would update it. I had to explain that it would take a very long time before I could get the photo I wanted.

The process would be like this:

1. Get husband to take a couple shots.
2. I hate them all, so I take the camera and proceed to do about 20 self-portraits.
3. Sometimes I get lucky in those 20, but then more likely than not, there aren't any winners.

I suppose I could see a professional photographer, but I like to keep it casual and he or she would still have to do a bunch of takes before I'd be happy!

So how about you? Are you a natural model or simply easy to please? Or, are you vain/paranoid like me and do you need a million takes until it's done? ;-)

Alice, I wouldn't consider myself vain :) but paranoid? Yes! In fact most the time, the photo you see of me floating around in my profiles and such is 3 years old.

I hate photos of myself. I know that it is because of my weight problem and we all know photos make you look (or at least feel) bigger than you are. So, I tend to stay away from them whenever possible.

I do however let pictures be taken of myself if I'm with a child. This stems from losing a child I was very close to (not mine), and after she died I realized I did not have any photos of myself with her because of my aversion to having my photo taken.

Since that day though, I may not like what I look like in the resulting picture, but if there is another person in the photo with me, especially a child, I will more often than not allow the photo to be taken.

However, for something like my web page, it would take me "to infinity and beyond" to come up with one I like well enough to post.

For some reasons, I don't like pictures of myself. There are some that I like that I will publish but it takes about 10 shots to get it right when I am taking one of myself, LOL!

I generally cannot stand pictures of myself, but am getting a bit better since I do want some pics of me with my kids. For my website, I only post the very best shots and those happen to be selected from literally hundreds of pro shots, luckily the pro is my brother and once or twice a year the kids and I decend upon his studio for a fun afternoon. Even then, I only like about 2-3 shots of me!

As a guy, I also hate having my picture taken!

But I needed my images displayed on my websites... so I tracked down a caricature artist online and he made me an image that I now use on all my websites/CD/DVD etc...

e.g http://www.databucketpro.com

One small upfront cost now means I do not need to always have a photo taken!

The toughest part for me is to make myself presentable for a business photo. With two little ones with me most of the time I don't usually look decent enough for a photo. Well atleast thats what I think. I am a hot candidate for a 'hot mamma makeover'.

I really don't like taking photos and am never happy with them... once in a while I get lucky and once I get a nice pic I won't update it for ages so not to go throught the process again :-)

The process is a little easier for me. I know there will never be a photo of myself that I like, so I have my husband take a few, then I point out the major flaws (if my eyes are closed or my six chins are horribly obvious) and have him retake a few more. Then I just pick the most tolerable of the bunch. I've done that just twice in 5 years.

Maybe we should all go to GlamourShots.

And I think Shannon's point about taking photos with children is excellent. Not only to have pictures of ourselves with the kids, but so our kids always have plenty of pictures of us. I have just a couple pictures of my dad. It wasn't about not wanting to be photographed, but he was always behind the camera and was rarely photographed.

Best for me are the shots that my daughter takes of me.
Something special comes out.
Also the best is when we spend a day by the sea.
If you want to see it...

I was thinking today that I need a closer shot for forums etc...

Interesting!
