Wednesday Words from You: "How I Use My PLR"

This is quite timely after John Reese made a post entitled "Is PLR A Massive Waste of Money for Most?" on the Warrior Forum.

I was kind of surprised by the post made by good ol' JR who usually doesn't make blanket statements like this. PLR is content pure and simple...if it's good, you can make money with it. Sometimes if it's bad, unfortunately, you can make money from it. I think many people who responded to his question are right on the money when they suggested it's the action you take that will determine the profits.

On the same topic, Mila and I just finished announcing the winners our "How Do You Use Your All Private Label Content Contest". Here are the answers from the winners:

--- START WINNER # 1 ----

I love using the PLR articles, recipes and other content I find in All Private Label Content!

Whether I am running from one business to the next or getting ready to tape one of my internet radio talk shows, I know that if I need content for my blog, or an article for my website or even read the PLR content for ideas on other articles or other content for my website or talk show I know I can always count on All Private label Content to have the best and most up- to-date information.

I love that you have the affiliate programs list and I will be implementing adding those to the articles and to my Heal Yourself Talk Radio site as well.

The recipes that I purchased are awesome too, I have used a few of them on days that I needed to get dinner ready in a hurry yet had no ideas and instead of running to McDonald's or opening endless cupboards for ideas I go to the recipes I purchased and see what I have in my house and see what recipes work best for me that day.

I have used a couple PLR articles in an upcoming ebook, made changes to make the article mine, and was able to get the information I needed out with both a mixture of my own words and the plr articles.

While I do not do that often there have been a couple articles that hit exactly what I wanted to say, so once I inserted my own thoughts and made the article my own I added it to my ebook.

I have used the articles on my My Space Blog, my HYTR blog, in forums when others are looking for information again making most of the article my own and using some of the content that was provided to expand my own thoughts and training.

I will use the articles in my newsletter especially on those Fridays when I am so swamped I don't have time to write my own article. I love the recipes again as I like to offer a recipe once a month to my HYTR audience and they look forward to an easy to use recipe.

There are so many ways to use PLR articles that I know I have forgotten some of them...but I can tell you for this busy mom, wife and business owner, PLR article are a godsend on days that I feel like I am at my wits end or the creativity is at its least attractive. It's nice to know I have content that is relevant to any of my sites. Whether it's for my website design business, my internet talk show or my podcasting directory, all items you offer for sale fit in one place or another again a godsend....

No more pulling out my hair when I need content....thank you.

Phew, she is a BUSY woman and I can see the time saving aspect is very important. And here's winner #2:

--- START WINNER # 2 ----

I primarily use PLR on my blogs or if they come in a bundle about one subject, I might add a section to my static website dedicated to that topic. I have also bundled them together into a report to use as incentive to get people to opt-in to my lists. I break them up and use them on Squidoo lenses. I add them to monthly newsletters and autoresponders.

Most times I rewrite and reword them to make them about 70% different than the original and use DupeFreePro to check this. Here are some of the things I do to change them up:

  • Give the article a new, eye catching title.
  • Ads some relevant information to the introduction paragraph perhaps including a mention of some recent news developments.
  • Use the thesaurus feature on your word processing software to replace some words without losing the meaning.
  • Modify the sentence structure while keeping the meaning the same.
  • Add a couple facts of my own.
  • Add personal stories or opinions
  • Add product links and information – affiliate links.
  • Add interesting graphics to break up the paragraphs a little bit.
  • Add audio or video
An easy way to add fresh content to all of my sites or information sources across the board. Thx!

--- END WINNER # 2 ----

Thanks to everyone who shared their ideas on our All Private Label Content forum...we REALLY appreciate it.

Alice I didn't see your response on the warrior forum... but here is what I think.

It all has to do with the quality of the content, and the philosophy of the user.

These plr packs that give you hundreds of articles for pennies each are going to be crap, pure and simple. I've bought some of those, and yes I wasted my money.

But good plr is good... and yes it does require some work rewriting to make it unique, and actually putting it to use in your business, but my income has absolutely increased directly as a result of judicious use of plr.

There aren't any shortcuts really. You can hire a trainer (buy PLR) but you still have to do the crunches (put it to work). :-)

Thanks for your thoughts, Carrie. My response on the thread is way over on page 2.

I wrote in response to John's following comment:

"It would be interesting to see some results from someone in like the Gardening market. Someone who has either used PLR articles to generate traffic and/or who successfully sells a PLR ebook to that market."

I wrote:

"We provide PLR content in a variety of topics. A large portion of our customers are in the parenting, women's and health markets. We do articles, special reports, recipes and "how to sheets". Due to demand we'll be venturing into some more types of content in the future.

Interestingly enough, we just ran a contest on "How do you use your PLR content?" and we're, at this very moment, picking a winner. The answers were AWESOME! People are really getting creative and using it as the timesaver it is meant to be. We also help our customers out by providing suggested affiliate products to promote with their content...simplifying the money-making process even further.

BTW - I became a seller of PLR after being a somewhat satisfied customer. I found some good memberships/packages and was definitely able to profit from those. But then I found a lot of garbage, so Mila and I decided to take matters into our own hands and create the GOOD stuff! ;-)

Alice"

You know I was surprised by his post too. I'm going to go back now and read all the answers.

By the way, yes, thank you so much to everyone who took the time to enter the contest. We really appreciate it.

I have to admit I've bought some pretty garbage PLR but I've also bought some good ones. Even if you do edit it a lot and add more original content, it's certainly a lot better than starting from scratch.

Firstly, as you ladies have mentioned it depends on the quality of the plr content. Some (or much of it) is plain garbage.

But there is some good content, but I think no matter what you're going to use it for (blog posts, articles or a product to sell) it's important to rework some portions to give it your own voice and flair.

Adding personal examples, ancedotes etc are a great way to liven up the content and make it more interesting as well.

I use plr content mainly as fodder for articles and blog posts, although I must admit that I often rewrite them substantially.
