Google, Will You Love Me Again?

Here's an update on MalcolmsWeb.com being banned from Google. It seems that Google now has a cache of the main page again and I now have a PageRank of 0 (woohoo!) instead of being greyed out.

However, when I search for site:malcolmsweb.com, Google says they have no pages listed for the site. I'm thinking this is either a temporary thing and I'll see pages listed soon enough (and maybe be the time you click that link there will be pages) ... or maybe Google will decide she (or is it a he?) really hates me and kick me out completely again.

Either way, I suspect that when my pages get back in, it will take a while before my rankings get back to what they were so I can start seeing good traffic again.

Well, I'm not waiting for Google to love me like it used to. This afternoon, I was just sitting here re-reading through the ArticleAnnouncer call transcripts with John Reese & Jason Potash and crafting a plan to revive the site, with or without the help of Google. I'm planning to launch a major article campaign using Jason's techniques and software -- plus I'm going to couple that with a press release campaign with the techniques I teach in my Press Release Profits course.

And then to add to my excitement for my plan, I just got my copy of the 2nd edition of Joel Comm's ebook What Google Never Told You About Making Money with AdSense ...which you may remember got me off my duff to earn an EXTRA $50/day with AdSense (it's now over an extra $60/day and I'm still not even half-way through working on my sites). So, I am arming myself with a lot of great strategies and I'm going to show Google that MalcolmsWeb.com doesn't need her...well, except to send me AdSense checks each month. ;-)

I'm documenting the whole journey and it may be a while before I can produce some really good data, but I promise to share all the juicy details with you as soon as I can. If you're interested in hearing more, be sure to leave a comment so I know I'm not just doing this for my own benefit, okay?

Thanks everyone for your support. Doug I'm glad you cleared up the matter of gender -- you didn't say your name! I'm so sorry.

I think some people are misunderstanding what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to show that we don't need Google to generate plenty of extra (FREE) traffic. If Google reindexes me and I start seeing traffic from them again - that will be awesome and I will be a very happy lady.

However, that stands apart from what I'm trying to show with my experiment. As I've said in the past, Google doesn't own my business (website), I do!

Life Coach, I'm definitely open to ideas and thanks for sharing yours. The only problem I have no idea how Google makes its decisions or how my project will effect my reindexing or rankings. I wouldn't even propose that I even try to explain that.

I just want to show that we can generate great longterm traffic and generate leads and sales for our business without being a slave to any particular search engine.

Hi Alice,
I just looked at Malcolmsweb.com and I got the impression that Google's algorithm may have decided that page is the same as a link farm.

I suggest you put a few paragraphs of content up the top.. The challenge or childrearing... the fact that child rearing knowledge is socially transmitted and can't be expected to come naturally.. there is a mass of content available there.

If you feel unable to write them I am sure your parent blog contributers would do just that.

BTW I am just preparing a host of pages on rss, which you can use to get frequent google spider visits.

A big hug from Oz, hope this helps.

Cheers

Hi David...thanks for the feedback all the way from Oz! :-) The site has over 150 pages of content on it and has ranked well for thousands of keyword phrases on Google. I don't think the amount of text I have on my home page is an issue as far as why it would be banned.

I have plenty of sites with very simple home pages with a brief intro and then links to resources on the site. Let's look at Google...their home page doesn't have extra words on it.

Thanks again, everyone. I'm looking forward to sharing all the details and I really appreciate your encouragement. I'm so glad to hear it will be helpful to you.

Hi again Alice,

I take your point about where your site has been, but if you stand back the credo Google has for its changes is simply this "Reward fresh content because that rewards our advertisers".

If your page is all just links then the current thinking is probably that they can index those pages and have people going straight to the content.

Google is constantly ammending its spiders with that credo in mind, so it stands to reason that putting content in-context, and links to and from other real content, will attract good scores however they ammend their spiders.

Its not a balding guy with a fag hanging out his mouth, over there at Google, but a bank of PhDs. according to SiteSell.

Whenever I have interrogated a top rating site it has had at least 600 words.

Try it, put some more content in http://malcolmsweb.com/

easily done.

btw is that on a SiteSell server?

Cheers

David

No, it's not SiteBuildIt. It's all done in FrontPage.

I understand your point if we're talking about rankings. But adding more content has nothing to do with being indexed. Indexed is indexed. You're talking about ranking, which is not the problem here. When Google indexes the pages of site, it ranks it well.

Look at eBay.com - all links. Still listed in Google. Same with Yahoo.com and all the biggies. Indexed in Google.

I'm not trying to be stubborn...so don't misunderstand me. I'm not trying to make the home page rank well for anything. I'm simply talking indexing here.

Oh no...I'm late to meet my friend for a movie! Gotta go.

Hi again Alice,

Can I make another point?
The algorithm Google used is sure to be complex, not linear or even fair, companies have a brief to do well for their shareholders, amen. Just look at the state of the environment.

Anyway, what I suggest is your site clipped the linkfarm flag.

And what I mean is that they have probably changed their algorithm
slightly and now youv'e fallen in that basket.

As far apart as motherhood pages are from linkfarms, they arent to electronics, and it isn't a human who reviews the sites.

I don't think eBay or any really popular site needs to prove itself, so google would rate them high anyway. Like banks, if you have zillions there, you dont pay fees, whereas if you are a pensioner it's $5 to talk to a teller.

I spent a few hours in an airport the other day listening to one of your mp3's. I'd just like to put a big smile on your face.

Why I asked about SiteSell is that you mentioned it in that mp3, and SiteSell doesn't allow .php pages.
I am a member of SiteSell but have set up on another server because of that.

I have put some of my site up, one page is giving me the joe blits but amongst other things it shows how to put rss feeds on php pages on your site, and that will put google into a feeding frenzy.

In the mean time if anyone would like to put a link "Want to learn more about RSS?" hyperlinked to www.rss-howto.com with a target="_blank" attribute within the "a" tag, then that will open a new page (and not lose yours), I am looking to get Google spidered.

If your content is relevant, or you have a good rss feed then I am happy to put up a reciprocal link. I am expecting a lot of traffic.

I was thinking too, you guys might like to read the transcript of a Science show on Australia's ABC. It's about folate and do-it-yourself DNA repair
It blew me away

What's the story there?

Thanks ... I want to buy the software asap.

Damian...The Article Announcer site is back up. Jason FINALLY decided to take a few days off (no phones, no email, no monthing) with his family and his host shut him down for too much traffic. :-(

He's moved to a dedicated server and everything is back in order.

As far as my offer goes, I will leave it up for the next 24 hours approx. There were a number of people who wanted to get in on the last of the offers. I will do my best to be fair to everyone.

Hi Alice

Good luck with your site! They did exactly the same to me. My site aged about 7 years just vanished overnite taking all of my hard work and just about all of my adsense income with it. Who knows what these guys ("googlebots") were thinking? Holding thumbs for you - please do the same for me!
